Noise from the rear - not the normal knocking noise

Alright people, since a good few months, I've always had a single knock from the rear offside.

This is the only noise i have now on the 9N and its bugging me. I had it when the car was bog standard, with springs on standard shocks, and even now with FK highsports coilovers on.

I had the coilies fitted last week and thought it had gone, but started again this week. Ive replaced the shock with the coilover shock so can't be that.

Ive ran a search on previous posts but have not found anyone with the same as mine. Its a single knock, mainly heard only when pulling off or driving at park speed, its not really hump related or anyway where the shock would be compressed. Its not the spare wheel or anything in the boot. I've removed everything from the boot and drove, and i still have it.

Everything underneath is sound 8) , I'm now thinking it may something to do with the rear offside brake. I have rear brake discs. Anyone had the same problem and had any diagnosis to it that either solved it or stopped it?

Any help appreciated? :D

yeah this would help me as well!!
i have a single knock noise when travelling slowly, it usually happens when i'm reversing out of my drive and it seems to come from the front nearside!
i have FK konigsports coilovers! is it possibly my brakes as i have discs all round and the rears are corroded and need changing!!

Hi mate, i think it may be something to do with the brakes now. I was told by someone from VW that this is something to do with the calipers, or pads not sitting properly :? but he was vague as to what it is exactly!

Like yours, when reversing it is more likely to be heard. However mines at the back!

mine always seems to be on the left hand side and i think it comes from both the front and the back but my dad has listened and seems to think it is purely at the front!!

occurs as i said mainly when i'm reversing off my drive and turning to the left at the same time!! i think it could be my brakes as they do clumk sometimes when its been on the drive a while!!

After having my anti-roll bar and bushes replaced at VW a few weeks ago, I'm still getting this clunking noise from the rear :x I've narrowed it down to either the wishbone bushes or sticking calipers

Right had an update, the garage reckons its the rear suspension top plate thats the cause. I was also speaking to a MK4 Golf owner who has the same noise too. They have changed everything but the top suspension plate and it still has the noise, so im quite convinced its this.
