Shell V-power/optimax petrol?

me and Doug were chatting about this today but i thought i'd try and get everyones opinions on these high performance petrols, i've always just used the plain normal petrol, although my car isn't exactly a performance engine.

but what does everyone else use and what benefits have you seen e.g better performance driving/MPG or whatever?

only asking as i'm tempted to change my fuelling habits to become a v-power only user, bit of a pain as i'll have to go out of my way to my nearest shell garage but if you guys recommend it then i'll do it. :)

Now and then when I changed petrol I thought I noticed that I get more mpg but when I filled up again I get about the same....

I'd say performance petrol is for performance cars (sounds obvious but we'd all like to believe it will make ours faster)

I went through a phase of using Ultimate Diesel - but then thought 102p was a little steep. I used to think the car ran better but it could have all been in my mind lol

I always fill up with BP Ultimate as higher octane is recommended for the GTi, even when it is 105.9 / 106.9 a litre 8)

Don't like paying it but it has to be done, luckily it's gone down about 2p now (wow  )

Designed for higher compression engines, such as those with turbos and superchargers, as the higher octane rating helps prevent pinking, so the majority of us wont see much of a benefit in that respect. However.... its not a complete waste of money because these fuels usual have a lot of detergent type additives that help cleanse the ports of s**t, thus increasing flow and leading to better performance and fuel economy.

In my very honest opinion, I wouldnt go mad on this stuff unless it comes down in price, but it wouldnt harm your wallet to "treat" your engine from time to time

i always use the V-power in the G40. (when did the name change by the way?). but i would say, if you've got the smaller engine, it does hurt to use it now and then. as has been said before, it does clean your engine which is never a bad thing! so maybe, evey couple of months, it might be worth filling the tank up with it!
