Hi,

I'm trying to replace the front top of dash tweeters. I've managed to get the grille off anyone know how to get the tweeters out without damaging them?

Dont take my word for it, but i just used a flat headed screwdriver to pry them out, no damage done

I tried buying some new tweeters (10cm) just the other day, couldn't get them to work tho

i think there is a capacitor on the original tweeters that acts as a crossover, so when you removed them you will have lost this and this maybe why the new ones arent working.

As for removing the old ones you need to push the two clips that go down into the dash inwards towards the centre of the tweeter and pull.

they should just come out use a flat screwdriver, thats how i did mine

I'll give it ago...hopefully I won't snap any fixing tabs like I did on the tweeter grilles

does it actually make a difference replacing the tweaters, sorry im a bit of dumbass when it comes to this stuff.

depends how much of an audiophile you are i guess. I personally think the standard set up is good enough at low to mid volume as long as you have a decent headunit behind them, if your going to playing music loud enough to make your ears ring then your going to need to replace them. However you'll find yourself spending in the region of £100 min to get any real noticeable improvement

I've got a set of Alpine SXE-1750 (2x16cm bass and 2x 1" tweeters) that I bought ages ago so I thought I'd put them in to see what difference it makes.

My headunit is a standard Sony CD that came as a dealer fit option, hopefully the speakers might produce a better sound than the standard paper cheap crap they fit at the factory.

I put some £70 infinitys in my car and they actually sounded worse beleive it or not. Also had the factory sony head unit and the sound quality was a lot better when changed for a more expensive JVC set up. I guess its down to taste and preference at the end of the day. Also there are two different kinds of factory speakers i have noticed, they changed production around 1997 and the earlier ones which were in my Polo sound better that the later ones

Mines a 1999 T so it's probably got the not so good speakers.

The alpine components I got were a bargain bought late last year brand new and only cost me the not so princely sum of £6.51 off eBay no postage as I picked it up when I was in London direct from the car audio shop who was selling any old stock they didn't need. I thought they might be a perfect fit for a Polo and they are.

I will upgrade the headunit when I can but for the moment it's fine also I've got the factory option MD changer so I can play my old MD's too!

Cool bang the new components in then, can always change back!
