Steering wheel

I went to take of my steering wheel, Knowing that the air bag was gonna give some gyp, as i was about to pull it of i noticed a little red switch under the center nut.... Is this a trip switch?

Haven't seen that, although I have just taken my steering wheel off. The plug that connects the airbag is red, but I doubt that's what you mean. Don't think it's a trip switch, the sensor is mounted under the dash on the center console.
Btw, did you remember to unhook the battery?

presumably u have to un-hook the battery to stop the air bag from setting off while u are takin the wheel off. If u disconnect the airbag the air-bag warning light will be on all the time & the ECU will be reading a fault code. how can u fool it into thinking theres no problems?? I'm sure iv seen this sumwhere but cant remember.

Hayesay is right, the car will think there's something wrong with the airbag. If you don't know what you're doing, don't do it. The airbag is highly explosive and that makes it a dangerous bit of kit.
Leave it alone, or take it a mechanic that knows...
On topic: if you mount a non-airbag wheel (really can't see why) you'll have to plug a resistor into the empty airbag plug. I don't know any more than that. I replaced my steering wheel, but I kept the original airbag in the process.
Any switch you encounter will definitely not be to trigger the airbag to go off. Oh, and don't mess with the connector spring, mounted on the rear of the steering wheel.

Better pics next week.
Raid makes these wheels, using the original steering wheel but remoulding the outer ring, then covering it in leather. It's thick, shaped for better grip and the sides are in perforated leather... Yum!

Well, it looks better in real life. Feels good too, woudn't be without it anymore.
Suits the style I want too- subtle, but better

bit hard to tell wot its like in that picture. jus looks the same as the normal one. sounds quite nice tho. how much they sell for??

Yeah it does look the same, but it's about twice as thick and softer too. The surround is shaped to suit the 'correct' grip (i.e. 10:15) with cutouts for the thumbs.
The size is exactly the same as the original is, since it uses the original wheel as a base, allowing me to keep the airbag.
They retail at around 270€ and can be found here:

theyre a bit pricey arent they!
cant really justify paying best part of £200 for a steering wheel!!!
i think id rather just loose the old airbag.

They're a bit expensive, you're right. But! I managed to get mine for 129€... Couldn't let that pass.
