i am currently runnin on the standard 14 inch wheels..obvisouly i wanna move forward
i wanna get some 15's or maybe 16's...but im not sure of the technicalities in terms of fittings.
so i wanna kno the limits..i dnt understand eventho i read the faq :?
so...ive been luking at some wheels on ebay...
i kno the advised size is 195/45/15?? or sumthing with a 100 diamtere on the studs...
but can i go upto from 165 to 205? on the tyre width... and from 40 to 50 on the ratio? wateva tht means....and the stud diameter? any bit less or more? whts the deal...i wud appreciate some help!!

I may be wrong but I know on my Polo the stud offset is 4" with 4 studs. Without a bit of extra (unnessecary) work then you wont be able to change this. I'm sure if thats not correct people will correct me. By the way that is the size on my 1.9 diesel.

on a mk4 u will need an alloy with a 4x100 stud pattern.
u can buy adaptors which change this to 5x100 and 5x112 if u have found a set of wheels with this pattern that u really like (usually posche wheels i think)!
these are expensive tho!!
the ratio is basically thew tyre depth as a percentage of the width of the tyre! so on a 195/45 tyre, the 45 is 45% of the tyre width of 195mm! hope that makes sense!

on 15s the best combo is 195/45/15 and this will ensure that the rolling radius of the wheel stays roughly the same and ur speedo will not be inaccurate!
if u changed the ratio to 50 ratrher than 45, the rolling radius of the wheel will be higher and will make ur speedo wrong!
on a set of 16s i think the best size is 195/40/16, 205 may be a bit wide but u possibly could fit them but it may again affect the rolling radius!

hope this helps bud!!
