Quick question about the 172 Clio Cup / Sport

Can anyone confirm the hp figure for these things.

I've been thinking it's been 172 for *ages*, but I'm now led to beleive it's only 124bhp and 172kW...

Is 172bhp just a myth then?, substantiated by articles like this:
http://www.carpages.co.uk/renault/renau ... =429605310

that must just be plain wrong, as it'd be 10kW extra, not hp

Just can't understand what the all the fuss about them is for, if this 124hp is true. If they had 172, I'd understand. Fair enough they have a bucket load of torque, but at the end of the day they're still french.

... confused ...

Deek.
(BTW, Lupo GTI is £125 cheaper than a Clio Cup!!)

I'm not getting the second sentence in your post, but I'm positive the Clio has 172 horse power. Not 172 kW.

That link is even more confusing to a tired Dutchie...

I know, 2litre engine only producing 124hp seems not that great. But I pulled the 124hp off Renault's website this afternoon. Let me go and search for a link...

Cut and paste from the "technical" section of renault's page on the car. I was just so surprised by these figures (red arrows) that I was somewhat taken aback. I would have put up with it being french if these figures weren't actually true. I think I'll have to phone a dealer tomorrow...
Engine

Fuel Type Essence
Injection Type Multipoint
Maximum Power - >bhp< DIN (kw ISO) >124< (172)
Maximum Power (revs/min) 6250
Maximum Torque - Nm ISO (mkg DIN) 200 (20,7)
Maximum Torque (revs/min) 5400

Maximum Speed - mph (kph) 137 (220)

I'm sure it's 172 hp - read a road test today where they tried it against the Pug 206 RC. The Renault lost. It's more comfortable, less noisy, etc. etc. but they liked the rawness of the 206.

Perhaps its 172 @ the flywheel and 124 at the wheels? although that is boatloads of transmission loss....

The guys that entered the data just switched the kW and hp figures around. 124 kW = 173 hp.

:D

Yup I was sure it was 172hp as well. But it's only a second or so faster than the Lupo, which could be put down to more torque and 1hp less. If it really was 172hp, you'd expect it to leave the Lupo standing...

Speedlaw -- doh!!! I shoudl have realised that  Panic over!

Although if it was 124hp, it would have made a very good case for sticking getting a Lupo next, as the Lupo would have stacked up well against it:
Pferdestärken 125
Engine cubic capacity 1598
Engine maximum Speed 127mph - 205km/h
Engine acceleration 0-62mph 8.3secs
Maximum output PS 125
at RPM 6500
Maximum torque 112 lbs.ft / 152 Nm
at RPM 3000

Hmmmm on refelction, the Lupo actually stacks up really well against it. Plus it's got ABS. Hmmmm. Something to ponder over before I have to speak to my dealer on Monday morning...

Hang on;

Clio:
Engine

Fuel Type Essence
Injection Type Multipoint
Maximum Power - >bhp< DIN (kw ISO) >124< (172)
Maximum Power (revs/min) 6250
Maximum Torque - Nm ISO (mkg DIN) 200 (20,7)
Maximum Torque (revs/min) 5400

Performance

0-62mph (0-100kph) 6.9
Maximum Speed - mph (kph) 137 (220)
Lupo:
Pferdestärken 125
Engine cubic capacity 1598
Engine maximum Speed 127mph - 205km/h
Engine acceleration 0-62mph 8.3secs
Maximum output PS 125
at RPM 6500
Maximum torque 112 lbs.ft / 152 Nm
at RPM 3000
So the Lupo is outclassed in horsepower, torque, max speed and 0 - 60.

But, it's a Lupo. And a GTI at that. I would have No Doubt. French stuff? I'll buy a nice Chaume or Brie and take the Lupo.

:D

I don't think I'd really appreciate the difference in 0-60 btwn the two.

Speedwise the Clio doesn't offer enough over the Lupo to attract me.

But the Clio's torque is interesting...

Although Clio has the big dissadvantage of the wipers going the wrong way.

And the Lupo has the big advantage of being individual.

Both are about to get replaced though... (Well, Lupo definately. and the Clio's getting really long in the tooth now...)

Deek.

The Lupo GTI is dead sexy IMO. We had a Clio for years, and it was, well - dissapointing. It wasn't a 2 litre, sure, but as a car it didn't do anything for me.

I dig the Lupo.

There - I said it.

I mean, just look at it - and this isn't even a GTI:

Those French lasses can pack it up and go home.
