My missus got to work in her 1.0l '96 Polo this morning and reported this.
She says it sounds fine and the oil level is ok. If I'm honest it could do with a service as it has been 12 months since the last one. Any ideas what this could be?
Cheers

with only 12months since the last service it shpuldnt be doing that! Whats the history of the car, services miles etc? Could be a failed CAT or head gasket, but i would seriously doubt it would still be running if the gasket had gone.

It's been serviced every year over which it covers a typical 8000 miles. Currently it's done 55k.
Checked it over and couldn't find anything obvious, and the problem seems to have gone. What could it have been?

Hehe - I doubt she'd have been THAT stupid!
Hopefully it was just dirty fuel, the filters could do with a change. Took it for a lengthy run last night and no sign of a repeat.
Fingers crossed

its not possible to put diesel fuel in a petrol car because the nozzles bigger. But you can put petrol in a diesel
