i got a SPI and they can be tuned, however its a bit of a lost cause.

if your going to get an engine conversion you may as well get a 1.3 mpi (GT) or a G40 (supercharged)

GT's are 75bhp out of the box with about 90 being easily acheivable. just seems a waste of time/money to start from 55bhp (SPI)

The swap isn't too difficult, if you can con someone with an engine hoist into helping you out... and if you're going to do it you may as well go all out for a GT engine :)

If it was anything other than a saloon i'd say just get a car with the right engine in off the bat and sell the old one, but fast saloons are damn rare :D so go for it if you think you can.
Remember though if it's got the 4 speed box you'll probably be wanting a GT transmission as well (but the default 1-litre saloon 5-speed appears to be just perfect already for a mix of speed and cruising)

it's hard to say but your best bet really is to wait a few years mate... they get gradually more amenable as you age and get more experience... if you get into this kind of shenanigans right after your test they'll have you marked down as a wideboy forever! :D

stick with the 1L and get some more road experience under your belt at the lower speeds.. it also teaches you how to wring the best performance out of the motor as well so you dont end up wasting the power of a bigger one :)

hello, first i thought i would introduce my self, im stefan, i along with matt go to collage together.

Matt is attempting this 1.0 single point - 1.3 multi conversion over this weekend, so it would help matt a lot if you were to give matt as much info as possible in this conversion as possible, because the polo at the mo is sha**ed from what he has said, because it keeps over heating. because it overheated, and will top out out at 60, being my fault!

so matt has found somone that has the engine. and it lies from there, he was planning on taking it out tomorro. matt may be 17 but he is a sensible driver and do you really want him driving his girlfriends corsa round. but you should be encouraging younger people to get into older cars to keep them going. any way i said my bit. and when he looks again hopfully somone is willing to give him what he needs to know before somthing worse happens.
thankyou

Help's already been provided, but just to clear up any loose ends...

Single point engines have the same weedy fuel pump whether they're 1.0 or 1.3. Just get the complete 1.3 engine with all its ancillaries and slot it straight in.

The difficulties come when going up to MPI spec as you need to get the better inline fuel pump, but even then it's not difficult.

Just disconnect your old engine systematically and the replace it with the 1300.

As others have said, tuning a single point injection engine is a waste of time, put the cash aside until you can afford a GT/G40 conversion as it's a much better investment.

Hope that helps.

Once a suitable donnor engine has been found and purchased a few hundred quid should be spent on reconditioning the engine, no point using near death, old worn parts that will just need changing once the engine is in.

i think he said, that he managed to find a polo van that was converted from a 1.0 single point to a 1.3 multi, but was missing a few parts, whitch is a complete, but he will have to come on, he thought that you had decided that matt was to young for the engine and had decided not to help him

i agree with them. hes better of saving up BUT if he really wants to do it and is determined then i should think if he asks the people will help him. after all, if u own a polo, polo owners will help u.

as for him being a carefull driver, theres no guarantee sying he wont have a crash or someone go into him. it only takes a split second of lack on concentration and there goes the car into the scrap.

i know when i was young and driving i wanted to do stuff to my first car and my mum told me not to waste money on it but to use it for a year as a beginning car and if i crash it it dont matter. it only cost me £350 and then ill have one years no claim which is good. i then sold the car for about £300 a year later which i thought was good. bt my third car my polo, is now the one i decided to do stuff to and im happy now. i ave 4 years no claims so insurance for me now is pennies. but it dont mean i wont have an accident or someone go into me.

but like i said b 4 if he wants to spend the money thats up to him and im sure if he asks people will help him.
