Dissapointing Polo Sport 1.4 16v 100ps performance

Hi all you Polo louts
My wife traded her old 1.4 16V 75ps SE for a brand new 1.4 16V 100ps sport. We expected the new animal to feel much sportier as its sport name and higher bhp suggested it would. However my wife reports that the new car feels much more slugish on acceleration which has caused her to have less confidence driving it especially pulling out of junctions and so forth. Whilst I have found it to have a fair turn of top speed I have to agree with her. We have taken it back to the dealer who has told us that it is driving as they would expect. Has any one else who owns this type of Polo found a similar feel with theirs? Do we have a possible problem or has VW done a move on us which is suggested by the fact that you can no longer get a 1.4 sport as VW have now changed their offering to a 1.6 Sport.

Hello,

I have got a 1.4 16v 100bhp Polo Sport and pulling away from junctions does feel sluggish. My partner also felt the same but after a while we got used to it.

We have also had a problem when pulling away the power drops for a split second. Been back to VW and they plugged it in but could not find a thing wrong with it.

Since then we have found out that it’s all down to supermarket petrol. If we fill up in Morrisons the car runs crap, if we use Shell the car drives much better.

the 75 bhp 1.4's usually have the same or similar ammount of torque to the 100bhp and depending on what engine it can come in 1000rpm earlier meaning that from a standing start or pulling away at a junction the 75bhp will feel quicker.

I have a 1.4 75bhp lupo and a 1.4 100bhp and it's certainly noticable. at least when the 100 was standard.

also the 75's run out of steam around 5000rpm but the 100's start around 4500 and pull to 7000

the 1.4 FSI is a different kettle of fish

lots of low down torque. power from 2000rpm but then nothing from 4500 all the way to 6000. just feels dead.
