Ok, say it costs you 700 to get clutch and gearbox fitted.

How much would another polo cost you? Say 1500?

I would find out how much a garage will give you for your polo. It probably won't be much, as PX prices are never in your favour to start with, and that's without a knackered transmission.

Yeah trade it in, its buyer beware as far as second hand cars and part ex's are concerned, so if they dont notice it dont tell them, and play dumb as a post. Just say you would like an upgrade, because your car has been great and thats why your trading up.

If the gear box is hardly noticeable, unless you'd know to look and if it is only slight rust, I would guess between £600 and £800. but really it depends on the car your trading against and how much profit margin there is on it.

I got offered £1000 trade in for my 1.4CL with faults known on 65k (N), but later sold it, with faults known privately for £775. As for as i know the guy who has it now likes it a lot, so whats a knackered car to someone, is a bit of a project to someone else.

well honestly how bad is the gear box? if its a slight wine or noise then it should be upto it. But if the gears are jumping out or crunching then i wouldnt wanna drive it that far.

If your new cars coming from a a garage, make sure it has a good warranty, if not then you dont want it because they know some things up with it! Make sure you go over every inch and rag it to FOOK on the test drive. Only if your completely happy, then buy it. You dont want to trade one problem in against another.
