gear Box ratios?

Bonjeur i dont post in this thread often, dont think ive posted on this thread at all actually. But i was just curious if anyonen knew if there were different gear box ratios for the different size engines below a 1.4. I drive a 6N 1.4 open air, and being the paranoid theeorist that i am i started assuming my gearbox is ont he way out and considering options for a new one should the worse happen. Then i remembered reading about 205 gearboxes and how fitting a 1.1 gearbox to a 1.4 would mean it accelerated much quicker. Was wondering if the principles were the same for polos?

Im a clueless fool so somebody please put me straight. Danke schone.

nooo. what i mean is that various engine sizes in the peugeot range ahve varying gear ratios. A 1.4 has longer ratios (gears hold out for longer) then a 1.1. I was wondering if the same principle applied to volkswagon cars. If it does then fitting a lower ratio'd gearbox(the 1.1 one) to a 1.4 would make it accelerate faster, though you owuld lose top end speed.

The 100BHP 16v Polo has lower ratios than the 8v so you could fit one of those. I think the 1.0 also has lower ratios too?
