A moment of your time, for a worthy cause

I'm posting this on behalf of my brother, who is running the Cardiff Half Marathon tomorrow for a cause which is very close to him and to his friends.

In December last year, a close friend of my brother was diagnosed with a brain tumour and shortly afterwards was admitted to hospital for emergency treatment. Although allowed home for Christmas he collapsed shortly afterwards and was admitted again on New Year's Day for further treatment. Biopsy results revealed that he had suffered from a rare malignant tumour which would require several sessions of chemotherapy and daily radiotherapy to cure.

In June 2006 he was informed that he was cured of cancer, unfortunately the following week he was contacted again and informed that the tumour had spread and that he had several more in his spine, for which there was no cure.

Thanks to the support of CLIC Sargent, a charity whose aim it is to help families through the having children with cancer, he was able to live the last weeks of his life at home under the expert care of one of their nurses. This allowed his friends and family to be at his bedside and provided more comfortable surroundings and relief from the pain he was suffering.

In July he passed away aged just 19, and ever since my brother and his friends have sought to raise money for the charity who cared so well for him while he was ill. Supporting CLIC Sargent will mean that families in the same situation are provided with the same excellent support when they need it most.

To raise money, my brother will be participating in the Cardiff Half Marathon tomorrow (Sunday 15th October) and requires sponsors to help him. I'm not asking you to donate much, but any money you can offer towards this worthwhile cause is well received.

If you would like to support my brother's efforts, please visit his Justgiving.com webpage at http://www.justgiving.com/tomgrant. Donations can be made electronically and transactions are dealt with quickly and handled securely.

Thank you for your support.
