rattle!

right i have a rattle whihc has be drivin me mad today on the way to college n back
it felt like it was coming from the handbrake lever so i lifted the cover n put tape on everything to try n see if something was knocking and its nothing down there!
its only when i accelerate hard go over bumps and sometimes change gear theres a slight knock or vibration!
any ideas?

Mate same thing happened to me. It is the centre section of your exhaust . Look at your back box and the pipe that connects it to your centre section push it to see if there is any play in it ( DO NOT do this whilst engine running as pipe gets very hot :) you should hear it making the noise. The solution that worked for me was getting a bit of wire and tying the pipe up so there was no play in it and it didn't move. I hope you know what I mean cause it took me ages to locate the problem!Cheers

i had a similar problem going over humps and bumpy roads. check the rear trailing arm bushes. thats what was the problem on my polo.
