Please help - Polo Coupe Vandalised

HI,

I wonder if any one can help, please?

I live in Scotland and returned from holiday recently to find that my car had been vandalised. The car is a Polo Coupe 1992 model.

To summarise:

1. The vandals gained access by using a screwdriver on the near side door lock, hence new lock needed.

2. They then smashed the panel around the steering column to access the ignition wiring, hence a new panel required.

3. They cut the plug off the wiring to ignition switch and damaged the plug in the process hence new plug or loom for that required.

4. The remainder of the wiring attached the steering column was likewise cut off at the plug so possibly another loom required for that.

5. The ignition switch although damaged appears to switch ok, but wont know until wiring is re-connected.

6. Despite efforts to hot wire the car, they failed to do so

7. The near side wing mirror has also been removed.

Whoever did this used gloves and so Forensics got no finger prints.

Can anyone please advise as to how I can go about rectifying this damage.

Would it be easier to buy a new wiring loom or simply replace the plugs. Are the plug inserts easy to get? Do they come with the plugs.

If required where can one purchase a new door lock and ignition switch are these easy to fit ?

Where can one get a replacement mirror ?

What would be the cost of replacing these items personally or possibly getting a garage to do them - cheapest prices please as I am an AOP !!!

Thanking you in anticipation

Surely the only way to go would be to source the parts from a scrappy preferably one that stacks the car and does not dismantle them but leaves it for the punters to crawl over. Buy new connector plugs from VW and get an auto electrician to fit for you unless the remaining wiring loom does not have enough slack to reach the connectors. Otherwise it will be case of removing wiring loom from scrap car and i fear unless you can replace the wiring loom yourself the cost of getting someone else to do it will be very expensive. If your car is worth say £400 then budget £50 for scrap yard parts, £20 for vw connectors, £100 for getting auto electrician to fit connectors. If u need a new loom and u cannot fit it yourseld consider car write off

Hi Mutley1,

The car is now up and running. In the end, although I had worked out most of the wiring for myself, I decided to make enquiries among auto-electricians as to costs and eventually manage to get one who re-wired it in his lunch-break for £20.

Thanks for your advice
