Hey guys,

Anyone know how to remove the plastic cover over the engine of a 1.2 9N?

A bloke from my local VW dealer told me it just pulls off - which is absolute rubbish.

I want to get at the panel-filter, but the cover is stopping me?

Anyoen done it?

Cheers

Seriously - VW are not joking, it's held on with what i can only describe as about 5 ball joint's.

Just pull it off dude.

Hahaha.

You're sure? I hold you responsible for any damage lol

OK, i'll give it another go in the morning, theres nothing i need to do first? not any screws, dont need to take off the oil cap? just yank it?

Easy then :?

Cheers m8

Honestly i'm sure, i have taken mine off many times.

It shouldn't need a yank, just gently pull off - just be careful as i dont want the blame if you break anything lol

You say easy?

But is there a chance that my 1.2 is different to ur 1.4 TDi?

Cause surely it would have come off already?

Sorry to be a pain

Yeah mine needed one hell of a yank when I changed my air filter, I think they get stuck on after a while.

If you put some grease or something around the edges when you put it back on, next time it should come off a little easier.

they definatly just pull off. there are 2 small rubber hoses attatched to the cover tho. they are easily disconnected though

Was just a K&N panel filter off ebay, really easy to change when you know how. :D

Sweet,

Any chances of a DIY section sometime for the air filter, or panel?

I eventually got the damn thing off. Made a fool of myself, took it back to VW, and got an engineer to do it.

I appologized for my foolishness, and fled.

The cold-air feed seems to be attached to the plastic cover though???

At least you got there in the end!

My K&N was a direct replacement for my old filter. If you're putting on an induction kit you have to leave the engine cover off.
