I had my 1.9tdi polo sport since April 2003 but might have to sell it due to overseas work. How much should I sell the car for to the dealer as well as privately? I can't seem to find any data on glass guide, parkers etc.

Thanks in advance.

I'm taking a couple of Honda Accord out for a test drive this weekend so i'll let you know how much they price my 2002 (September) 3 door Sport TDi 100.

Awesome midrange pulling power, superb cruising abilities.

Fantastic MPG but the typical 9n problems let it down. Mine still has noisy suspension, a few rattles but then you get that with most cars.

I'd go for the 5 door model though get a few extra's - 16" Alloys, heated seats, auto wiper etc.

OK took the car out for a test drive - I was well impressed with the New shape Accord. I would have bought it there and then but they offerred me a crappy price for my car.

£8250 I beat him up to £9000, realistically I wanted 9500-10000 but the problem is my car is not in glasses guide yet

Unless he comes back to me with another offer I'll stick with the Polo, which is a shame.

VW dealers do have a little black book - they didn't say what it was though - that I've been shown with figures in it for 9Ns. FWIW, a 14 month 1.4SE petrol in good condition is currently worth £6750  Don't know if that helps you at all, but I think you've got a really good price there...

Des,

Just out of interest, I'd be interested to know why you're changing your polo. Don't feel obligied to say, though

There's a Type-R Accord in my local Honda dealer (was out there today) on a Y plate for 12.5k which is *just* outside my budget - like all the interesting stuff... Maybe I need a bigger budget!

Drool.... Recaros.....

They also had a new shape Accord in dark grey with a fawny/dark beige full leather interior. Sumptuous is the only word I can think of. Even the sterring wheel was gorgeous to look at!!

Deek,

The main reason I'm changing is because I need 4 doors (kiddies on the way soon) plus I need the extra space. The rattles are driving me mad along with the crashing suspension :(

I decided not to go for the Type R as it is an old generation model and it only has 2 airbags. I took out a 4 Door gun metal grey 2.0SE with Epsillion 17" Alloys. It had dual zone climate front, side, and window airbags. You had to cane it to get moving but you had the familiar iVTEC scream past 5000RPM - NICE.

It's not as quick as my Polo but a whole lot smoother and quieter, looks classy too. I also phoned up VW and they quoted £8500 for my car so the Honda trade in is looking good, as you say. My wife reckons I should go for the Honda

Think I'll have another look round first, may even look at second hand C class Mercs.

Haven't you seen Top Gear's Survey show two weeks ago? They hammered the Mercs for being, well, rubbish.

Here's how the C-class model did in the Exec class:
1. Jaguar XJ Series - 90.9 - 1
2. Lexus IS200 - 90.2 - 4
3. BMW 5-Series - 86.4 - 23
4. BMW 3-Series - 85.5 - 31
5. Volvo S60 - 84.5 - 35
6. Saab 9--5 - 84.5 - 36
7. Audi A4 (older - pre-Jan 01) - 84.4 - 37
8. Audi A6 - 84.3 - 38
9. Jaguar -Type - 83.8 - 42
10. Audi A4 (new) - 83.8 - 44
11. Volvo V70 - 81.7 - 54
12. Mercedes E-Class - 81.6 - 57
13. Volvo S80 - 81.0 - 61
14. Vauxhall Omega - 79.9 - 74
15. Mercedes C-Class (older - pre-Sept '00) - 79.7 - 77
16. Volvo C70 - 79.1 - 83
17. Alfa Romeo 166 - 78.9 - 85
18. Jaguar X-Type - 76.4 - 104

So, a Jag appears at each end of the table. Shamefully, the X-Type scores lower than the equivalent new Mondeo

19. Mercedes C-Class (new) - 73.6 - 127
And overall:
124: Peugeot 106 - 73.8
125: Fiat Bravo - 73.8
126: Mercedes A-Class - 73.7
127: Mercedes C-Class (new) - 73.6

128: Citroen Saxo - 73.2
129: Ford Galaxy - 73.1
130: Land Rover Freelander - 73.1
131: Alfa Romeo 156 - 72.9
132: Fiat Punto (new) - 72.5
133: Mercedes M-Class - 69.6
134: Renault Laguna (new) - 68.9
135: Peugeot 307 - 68.7
136: Renault Espace - 68.2
137: Volkswagen Sharan - 67.1
