Please help!

My car will start then cuts out straight away, even with or without foot on gas!

We think it has something to do with fuel not getting through, but I am stuck!!

It was fine yesterday, then this morning, nothing!

I need the car for work so any help appreciated.

Gina.

Hey Gina,

Ive had this problem too...
... the thing is it happens randomly to me. Some weeks it will happen, other weeks it wont.

The car starts, fires up to about 1.2k revs, then chockes itself. I have no idea what it is, ive asked in many places, but with a car this age it could be a lot of things..

Keep trying to start it, and it shud start after a while, once mine is running it will run forever...

there are a few people in here with the same problem, maybe one of them could post and give some more info...

Good luck

I have the answer!!

I used an aftermarket key to try and start the car that morning, because I had lost my proper VW key that day.

However, the garage couldn't find a fault and it came down to...

The VW key has a "chip" in it and acts an immobiliser so I have to find my keys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never knew my car had this, it's only a basic model Polo!

My polo did excatly the same thing, i work at a mechanic garage and plugged the computer into my car and 2 faults came up....
1.was the knock sensor- sits behind the starter motor and wont let the car start if the part is faulty! Got this part from VW only costing me £40 at a traders price.

2.If you have 2 keys programmed into the car it confueses it. so i always carry both keys with me, if it doesnt start with one then use the other one and it does.

cheers...

Glad you got it sorted Gina..

So it could be my key that is casuing my car not to start, are the keys battery powered?? or is it just a chip that the car senses?

Il take a look at that knock sensor thingy over the weekend if i get time... could have solved my problems.. :P

I dont think there is any batteries involved, jut a chip it must detect. The key looks normal, I thought I was being good getting a spare but looks like I'll have to go to VW.
