HELP NEEDED!

my polo recently took a turn for the worst, on saturday night i was off to the cinema to watch borat!, whilst i was driving down the duel carrigeway i noticed the power suddenly drop, then come back (sort of like just before u run out of petrol) so i pulld over and when i came to a stop the car stalled? then it wouldnt start for a few minits, then it started agian and i was off to the cinema once again! when i returned to the car after the film, it started fine, on my way out of the car park it decided to stall twice and hold lots of traffic up behind me finally got it started then i was off, then it stalled again and wouldnt start so i called my freind and got towed home, im proper stumped on this it seems like petrol isnt getting to the carb but ive checke all pipes and filters anthere fine, also distributor seems ok too, im wondering if anyone else has experianced any problems like these before, ive only had my mk2 coupe S for 2 week now and im gutted that im not able to be out in it enjoying my self

Distributer and new hall sender is what you need, i had it go on my MK2 and it gave exactly the same symptoms, not too expensive or difficult to fit either.

am i right in thinking that the hall sender is part of the dizzy, so when i buy a new hall sender i will get a dizzy too, or does it come off seperatly?

I had the same last weekend. but found it was the pierburg carb t**s up. no idea wot is wrong with carb, but got another off a scrapper n it runs better than it did before.

it seemed to b flooding the engin and starving it, and spraying it all up n out top of carb all at the same time.
