Windows that won't go up is different than what I had (mine wouldn't go down at all anymore, regardless of how long you waited) and may or may not be cured by fitting the repair kit. You'll have to doublecheck with a VW dealer or a knowledgable specialist, unfortunately I have no idea myself.

I also found that the drivers side window was struggling to go up, taking twice as long as the left one.

Thought it must just need lubing but when i took the door apart to have a look it turns out one of the rollers for pushing the window up had come off, so only one side of the window was being pushed up.(Therefore going up at a slight angle and causing alot of strain on the motor)

Was fixed in 5 mins and works better than the left side one.

Problem now fixed!

Well some months ago, after spraying some WD40 along the runners of my passenger side window. Which enabled my window to once again go all the way up without stopping, although it took somewhat longer than the drivers side. I could live with it, I just used it as little as possible.

Over the course of winter this became increasingly worse again, until it got so bad that when a friend put the window all the way down it only managed a few inches going up on its own. He had to put a hand on each side and push it up whilst I pressed the button.

So yesterday I decided the door was coming to bits again. Checked lube on the runners, yep that was good. Then noticed that one of the clamps that holds the glass was at an angle, gave it a bit of a wiggle and it came off in my hand! Tried to work out how it was meant to be attatched to the runner but couldn't see it. Took the runner out to get a better look, then found where the clamp should fit but with a missing clip. It had broken off on comparison with the other runner/clamp. Bugger! Similar problem to Criz with the window going up at an angle. Fabricated a split pin through the soft plastic/nylon material which the clamp located over. Just hope that it holds. Put it all back together, adjusted the window clamp.

Job done! Window works ok just a bit slower than the drivers side.

My passengers window has done the same thing now... it goes down but takes a lifetime to go back up!

I'm going to check the runners and lub them up... before looking into replacing parts!

How hard is it to remove the door card?

Its easy enough from what I remember, just remove the outer part of the grab handle, I used a flat bladed screwdriver to pry it open then pull. Inside is a screw, fairly big cross head. Take that out, unscrew & remove the door pin. Then pull the door card off, its attatched by clips all the the way round that should just pop off. When its off all the way round, holding the handle (the one to open the door with) at the open point lets it slide off better.

After the doorcard there is a plastic lining which is stuck on with some er... sticky stuff mine had a few more holes in it than it was meant to 'cos someone had been in there before. I pulled it back but left the bottom attatched to get a good look. Start in a corner, pull a bit then cut the sticky with a stanley blade, do this as far round as you need to see.

When done poking around the sticky should stick back on again then reverse the rest to get it back together.

Ta for that, i went out and bought the kit to solve the problem of my passenger window not moving.

Went to use it and discovered that i do not infact have a window motor, or a window mechinism at all!

The flaming window is held up by a piece of wood GRR!

Hi everyone.

I found this forum and it seems great. Thought i'd found the answer to my window fault but it appears its not meant to be!

Before i begin, let me just say that i'm not at all knowledgable about cars as i'm just starting out, so no laughing at anything obvious that i get wrong.

I've just bought my 1st car, a 1996 N reg 1.6GL Polo. Blue. And very nice it is too. The problem i have with it is like some of you guys, the passenger window will go up but not down.

I've had the door apart and tested the plug, switch and motor and separately it all works fine. But together it'll only go up.

Having seen this thread and the video i figured i'd try the repair kit. Took it all apart today to fit it and found that the white plastic cog will not go over the spindle. It seems the centre of the new cog has a thread showing that it must need to be screwed on to the centre spindle.

The spindle i have is smooth and the two do not go together.

Can anyone offer any clues as to whats going on as i'm quite stumped now, short of getting a whole new piece which i'm sure will be pretty pricey.

Incidentally before seeing this board i went to a breakers yard and bought a 2nd hand mechanism. However this has exactly the same results and i can't take it back.

The only thing i have noticed is that you guys are using phrases like 6n1 and i see on the video that the part number begins 6n3. I'm not sure what this means but i've seen on the spine of my manual that the 2nd to last batch of numbers is 6n0. Is it to do with this number, is the part i need starting with 6n0?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Oh and to top it off, some scummer has pinched the VW badge off the rear and i haven't been able to get another one!
