engine mods for mk4 1.3 8v

have seen that someone has put some bike carbs on a 1.4 8v, other mods to making it more pwerful than a 1.4 16v
any info?

Standard stuff really, but surely if you want 16v power it would be cheaper to get a 16v? When you consider that as you increase power you need to improve the brakes etc etc too!
