Upgraded Lights

Has anyone managed to upgrade their lights or is everyone running stock bulbs??
Tried to get the LED sidelight out on weekend but was 2 bloody cold. its tucked right up and fingers just couldn't grup. Managed to sqeeze clip undone and got bulb loose, but couldn't pull all the way out without pointy-nose plyers.
Want to put PIAA dipped lights in but cant for life of me see how to and dont want to ask VW dealer due to waranty issues etc...
