Using Shell Helix

Hello Members
Does anyone use, or has used Shell Helix 10w/40? specifically in a 1.4 Polo (petrol,Auto), around the year 2000 to 2002.

Did they feel it was better or worse than Quantum Sytha silver semi.

The reason i ask is that my car has just been for a service and MOT, and although i did mention i have the Quantum oil in my boot, for the oil and oil filter change, i did ask them at the time if they could do something about the noisey tappets, they seemed to think Shell Helix (same grade) would help, only it's fully synthetic.

Do members feel this oil is safe to use, or will it damage the engine, or protect it even better than VW's own.

I don't notice a great difference in the tappet noise.

help, or advise would be great
cheers

Hi

Firstly I think you need to use the mk5 forum, they didn't make the mk4 in 2001. Or the engines section might be useful.

The only advice I can offer is that you shouldn't mix fully synthetic and partially synthetic oils. I'm not sure why it would make your cam rockers quieter though :?
