hey guys! im new to the forum and like to say this has been a very useful forum to me so thank you for all the information provided!

im looking to a get polo, the 6n2 model i believe (the 2001 model). problem is i cant find any that are the 75 bhp model. iv got a 1.4 206 at the mo and dont want to get a slower car so the question im asking is....

...are the 60 bhp 1.4L and the 1.0L models really that much slower than the 1.4 75bhp model? would just like peoples opinions and how they feel about their experiences. if i find a good 60 bhp model i mite just go for that one. i still need to drive one but most are quite far away and i dont have time to go visit them.

thanks in advance :D

polo 1.0e - 50bhp
polo 1.4 8v - 60bhp
polo 1.4 16v - 75bhp
polo 1.4 16v (or usually named just 16v) - 100bhp
polo 1.6 GTI - 125bhp :D
polo 1.6 GTI with a custom code - 200bhp+

not sure on the performance of diesel models. i may be wrong but as far as i know the above values are correct

polos are quite nippy and quick of the mark, however they perform well due to being small/light cars, especially the gti. stick 2-3 ppl in the car and drive and it becomes a bit sluggish, but most cars would anyway so its not exactly the end of the world.

yeh iv had a look at all the figures but its all just numbers at the end of the day. need to sum real life expierences! :D if the 60 bhp and 50 bhp are quite nippy then i wouldnt mind one.

also, does anyone know why the polos are in high insurance groups? goin from the S model to the SE model causes the insuracne group to go up by one!

Having owned both a 1.0E and a GTi, it's safe to say the performance gap between them is huge.

The 1.0E is not a bad car by any means, and for driving around town it's pretty much adequate. Although on motorways you will feel the lack of torque, but it'll still happily buzz along at 85 in the outside lane.

The main drawback with the 1.0E is the specification or lack of it. Unless the original owner ticked a lot of option boxes it'll be pretty basic. Electric mirrors are pretty much the only luxury it has.

If you can afford to insure a 1.4 S or higher, you'll get the benefit of additional performance along with a better "goody count" on the inside. All comes down to budget really.

I have a 1.0E for 2 years now, its been good. Its nippy enough but like redline said if you do a lot of motorway driving - it can be a bit of a ball ache.

Ive driven the 1.4 and its quite a bit quicker so may be worth getting that if u can afford the insurance...if you just wait long enough, the right car will come along! If your not in a rush that is...
