Creaky clutch problem - Need more info. Help

Hi all, I've been having a problem with my clutch for a few months now and its gradually been getting worse. Basically my clutch pedal has been getting gradually more and more creaky, it tends to get worse when the car has been running for a while. I've decided that I'm probably going to get it seen to as I've got a few long journeys coming up. I asked about the problem on here before and I think Bepe said it was my Clutch box was cracked and would need replacing.
After doing a bit of searching on here I've seen several people have had the same problem and I've got a few questions. Is this the same as the gti pedal box problem? Can anyone explain it to me in more detail so I sound like I know what I'm on about before I get ripped off at the garage

And anyone who'd had this fixed I'd like to know roughly what its going to cost me.
Really appreciate any help advice, Thanks.

Well if i could get it for free, then I would be a very very happy man. Can I ask if you are a gti owner though? As I believe it is a standard recall for them

Really! Exactly what I've got. Can I ask what I need to do to get this done for free as its supposed to be expensive! Any details you've got would be really appreciate! Did you buy your polo from a dealer recently if so was this done under the 1yrs dealer warranty?
Thanks

good to see someone else with a match, i bought mine privately, i just went into the dealership, and told them about the creak from around the pedal area and the stiffness of trying to select gears, and they told me that the pedal box had gone, and they looked up my VIN number on there system to tell me that the safety recall hadnt been done. so they did it free of charge due to it being a safety recall.
I got back home and had a look for myself and had found that the welds were breaking up on the pedal box!
hope this helps.

Thats great! I'll get hold of my VIN number and give em a call and let you know how I get on. You might have saved me some serious money dude. If it pays off I owe ya one.

Perhaps you can help further

I've spoken to VW and after a while, and after speaking to the right people they've said they'd fix my pedal box free of charge
However they said they would have to take a look and diagnose the problem first, but if the problem doesn't turn out to be the pedal box they'd charge me £40 for the diagnosis.
The only symptoms I have are that the clutch pedal is creaky most of the time (but not always) its been gradually getting worse. I don't seem to have any problems getting it in gear. How can I check myself that the pedal box is definately f**ked?
Thanks

just look straight up under your pedals, and you should then be able to see.

Nick, your box has cracked mate, i can tell you that 100%! it happend to mine, what will eventually happen is the biting point will get further and further down the footwell, as your box is very very weak, the part costs around £20 odd quid and labour..........around £150, mine was more because my alarm wiring was in the way
hope this helps
