Don't even bother with 17 inch wheels on the Polo in the first place. They look stupid on the polo.

I doubt you could even lower the car 40mm on 17 inch wheels, without problems like the tyres rubbing on the arch liner, and I'm pretty sure you can't go full lock with them on.

I haven't seen a car with 17 inch wheels that looks any good. In my opinion, they're far too big for the car. Leave big wheels to 4x4's and posh saloons.

I have 17"s, lowered 30mm with no problems at all. Full lock is fine and all that. I think it looked good - hence why i did it lol! I remember when i was asking about it, someone had gone 35mm with no problems, 40mm should be fine. You may need some arch rolling if you want to go 60mm.

Depends what look you wanna go for, -40mm wont be THAT low, so if you wanna go for the 'euro' look then get 15's and slam it. If not then go for the 17s.

I think mine looked alright;

Ignore the spare on the front lol. Thats the only pic i have since the suspension settled...

I just don't see the point of putting 17's on such a small car.

A) you'll be adding a load of unsprung weight. The wheels alone will be adding at least 5kg per corner, probably more like 10kg - so another 40kg for the engine to lug around.

B) the tyres (assuming they need 35 profile) will cost a small fortune. And with such a low profile, you will feel every bump in the road and will increase the risk of buckling your wheels.

C) your MPG will decrease by a noticeable amount

D) they just look out of place.

yea 17s on polos looks gash but to answer the question,

my car is lowered 50mm with 15s and i have less than an inch between the wheel and the arch, so you do the math
