My car needs oil changing and what is the best one to use. Don't mind spending a bit extra for something very good. I tend to do short trips as well as long motorway journeys

After having many problems, I recommend you use only quantum oil that VW sell. Whilst other oils meat the specs, I had trouble with the oils breaking down, causing it to come out the breather. Since I used the quantum oil, no problems.

The worst oil was magnatec advanced. Its to do with the synthetic blending. Whilst the viscosity is correct, it starts to break up under high pressure somewhere in the engine, it doesn't work well with the upper cylinder lubrication design on the polo. I was chasing the problem round all over and it was just the oil!

just to the right of the alternator, on the front of the engine block.

In the photo you have, its out of sight but on the middle of the bottom edge.

well to get under my car i had to use the jack that you get in the boot first to lift it up a bit, then i used a proper hydraulic jack which wouldn't fit underneath. The oil filter is easy to get to and change, it is just in front of the engine near the altenator as mentioned above

Its not easy to change on mine at all, you have to have a socket for the filter. The A/C is in the way, you can ONLY acess it from under.

I could get to mine from the top and had plenty of room, thats because i haven't got a/c :(

Well the AC gets in the way of everything. It makes changing the drive belt from a fiddly pain, into a XX!"££!%!!!

How the hell do you take it off? I've got an adjustable spanner and it's not moving at all

You need a socket, and it has to be the right size, or else it will tear off, then you are screwed.

It sometimes is tight. Remember to smear some fresh oil on the rubber seal when you place the new one on, and do it up by hand. If it leaks, then and only then nip it up a little further. The rubber seal should do the sealing, not by just raunging it up!
