Been toying with the idea of getting this suspension kit.
I just wondered whether anyone had one or knew whether the make is any good?

go coilovers instead of springs and shocks

I had considered that, but they are a bit more than I wanted to spend. The cheapest set i've seen was around £350, and for that money I could get a suspension kit and a Raceland manifold.
Or is it really a waste of money getting the suspension kit, and should I just get the coilies and save again for the manifold (but with my 1st baby on the way I can see saving for mods taking a long long time )

Before the coilies, did you have the OEM springs? or an aftermaket suspension kit?

i went from standard non gti polo springs to aftermarket springs to coilovers.

And was there much difference in handling going from standard to aftermarket springs?

Your cheapest option would be to just to go for some lowerings springs, and it just so happens I have Some Eibach Sportline springs that lower the car -50mm. PM me if your interested.

After a bit more research it seems that the ebay kit I linked to is made by Bilstein, aren't they supposed to be amongst the better shock absorber manufactuers out there?

Yes Bilstein are a quality manufacturer, however, I have doubts over whether that kit is manufacturered by them.

Yes, Bilstein do a kit which is called "streetline" which consists of B4 shocks and lowering springs. B4 shocks are intended as OE replacements, i.e they should feel exactly as your OE shocks did when new.

My reasons for doubting the e-bay kit is Bilstein are:
A) the B4 shocks are black in colour
B) the Bilstein kits are obviously branded Bilstein on the box
C) if somone was selling a Bilstein kit, they would state it, as it is such a well known quality brand and therefore demands a premium.

If you really want to know, ask the seller if they are Bilstein, it is not worth their while to be dishonest about the product.

I am having a set of Bilstein B8 shocks fitted at the end of next week to my 6n2 gti. I believe that these are the best performing shocks on the market, and it is the shocks that do all the work controlling the damping. The fronts are twin tube design giving better low speed ride, whilst the rears are mono-tube, providing smoother damping. For reference, I have 2 young children whom I take to school/nursery in the car.

If you want your car slammed, then yes go for coilovers, but don't be bullied into that route. You don't need coilovers for good handling, in fact 9/10 people will have them set too low and a quality shock/spring combo will out perform coilovers on the road.
