Can you just put xenon bulbs on ordinary lights on your car or will they not work very well without the whole setup? Anyone have them? there only £5 ish and Im wondering if people bother getting them and do they work better at night?

I doubt it's the proper xenon HIDs (like Mercs and BMWs have) for only a fiver! You can get kits from here which are the real deal:

http://www.hids4u.co.uk

and work for most cars :) Cost quite a bit more though!

I think Ill get some cheap ones then, obviously there not going to be as good as a proper new car like setup, but got to be better than the yellow tint normal ones anyway :)

Not sure which ones to get mind, h4 you say? I think thats right because there are some on saying vw polo 90-99 or something, so Ill get some of those,

Cheers

Remember - you get what you pay for. I replaced my halogen bulbs with xenon bulbs and the difference is amazing. They are PowerBulbs Power Blue - a xenon HID effect bulb - it was £30 roughly, but H4's will be cheaper as my polo has H7's. You can get them from powerbulbs.co.uk and they are buy one pair get one free.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Alex

By no means ignorant. You will need H7s :D Heres what i have had in a previous thread for you :
jonnopolo wrote:Hi Alex, H7 are for your dipped beam headlamps & H1 for the full beam; W5W (or 501) as you correctly state are for the side lights.
Hope this helps dude!

Hehe ye its fun when your just starting out with the mods and all that - the light change is one of the best in my opinion. Much better out put, and on high beam can see at least a mile.

Alex

I didnt realise you would need to different sets lol I thought they do dipped and main beam together as they are twin filament! or is this for H4 bulbs? so basically I need a pair of H7s and a pair of H1s and if I want a pair of W5w for the sidelights. Im sounding really thick lol

Fitting them will be interesting I think lol how did you find it?

Yup you are right there - I thought it was a single bulb at one time, but if you look at the headlights you can see theres 3 different bulbs:P .

I recommend some nice LED sidelights from www.ultraleds.co.uk and the PowerBulbs PowerBlue from www.powerbulbs.co.uk They might still be doing the buy one get one free offer. Buy the H7s, then send them an email saying youd like H1 bulbs as the free pair instead of the H7s. You also get a free pair of Philips BlueVision Sidelights (not LED).

I have code U501WHP2+ in my car. High intensity super bright metal cased LED sidelights - they look fantastic.

Fitting is a little fiddly, but will only take 30 mins max for both sides probs 15 mins really. The sidelights just pull out whereas the full and dipped just clip out its nice and easy for that part.

Cheers,

Alex

cheers yeah it would be better if I could have the H1s as the free pair rather than another pair of H7s
I assume they can do that then and have them send you a different pair?
There seems to be quite a bit in the way of the bulbs for me to get too. I heard you can do it without moving anything its just a bit fiddly

if this fails then I suppose I could take it to my local garage round with the bulbs lol

cheers again

EDIT: another question.. PowerBlue or PowerPlus on the BOGOF from powerbulbs?

Okie dokie:) its easy just gotta wiggle about a bit wit ya fingers.

as for the choice, powerblue have that blueish white tint that Xenon HID bulbs have (like you get on high end mercs and all that). PowerPlus are just xenon filled, with 20% more brightness than the PowerBlue (which have 30% extra brightness instead of 50%).

Just send an email to [email protected] (i think thats it - but check the contact page on the site to confirm it :P) quoting your order number and say please could you swap the free set of bulbs on my order to H1 bulbs instead. They should do it with no problem.

Cheers,

Alex
