Fuel Filler Flap

ok here the deal.....
its a Polo (97 R reg, 5 door, non central locking) and the spring that holds the fuel filer flap thats part of the body work in place has busted.
ive got the new spring but not a clue how to fit it.
there's nothing in the haynes manual and i've removed all the interior trim but cant see where the spring goes.
so basically, i just need to know how to fit the spring on the fuel filer flap so my flap does open and close on its on in the wind!
