ARC and AVY

Post by andyg »

Hi guys,

Whats the difference between ARC and AVY engines?

If you had the top end of the ARC engine would it interchange with the AVY engine?

cheers

Not sure about the technicalities, but if I remember correctly, one of the engines came on later models and was more environmently friendly as it had lower emissions...other than that not sure what else...

Didn't one one of the versions have slightly less power, like 120bhp?

Also I know there's 2 versions of the spec sheet for the service book which have slightly different 0-60 times.

That's about as much as I know.

The later model (AVY) has two lambda probes.
Before and after the Cat'

Both had 125bhp though.

I'm sure I read somewhere that GTI's before around June/July 2001 pay cheaper tax and after they pay around £175. Mine is March 2001 and I pay £150. Haven't checked my engine code

Thats because its when the emission law came out on vehicle tax. Obviously the gti has bloody high emissions.

I read somewhere that on the later engines, to reduce the emissions, they throttle the power.

So say when the run the test at 3000RPM the ARC would produce so much CO2 and the AVY would produce less.

Or something like that.

I believe the law came out in jan 2001, so most y reg cars will have to pay more for tax. Basically before then there were 2 petrol car tax codes, upto 1.3 and above 1.3. They then changed it to be charged on emissions.

On clublupo a while ago, one guy had an x reg tdi and was paying £150 a year. Another guy had a y reg tdi and was paying £50 a year!
