how can i get my car recognised as a GTi??

Whenever i take my car to VW and give them my registration number it comes up on their computer as a 1.0L!
Normally this wouldnt have bothered me, but, when i have been going round getting insurance quotes and have entered my registration number it comes up as a 1.6L!
I was looking through my service booklet and found that the car was originally from ireland so its obviously been imported at some point. I've checked the VIN and engine codes against the sticker at the front of my service booklet (which says its a GTi) + my V5 and they all match up.
Its starting to do my nut in now, especially when i am trying to buy parts from VW!
Has anyone else had this problem or know how i might be able to sort it out?
cheers
scott

why not just buy a Gti rather than drive a 1.0L ha ha ha only messing - no idea ask Vw to update their system? not sure how they would do this though - but by the sounds of it your getting the raw end of both deals.

Jeez, that does sound like a bummer, I'd write to VW customer services and explain the situation and see what they come up with...good luck...and amazed that something like this could happen...

Damn it, i knew i wouldnt get away with it!
Im not too bothered about the insurance companies thinking it is a 1.6L, just means cheaper insurance!
Its when im trying to buy parts from VW and they look at me like im daft when the registration shows up as a 1.0L and im asking for a GTi part.

Do vw customer services have an email address or do you have to go through a dealership?

Check out the VW website, there should be a page on there with contact details, write to them, makes it more 'official' and shows that you are serious!

There were 4 trim variations for the 6n 1.6 8v i.e. L, CL, GL & GLX (I had a GLX hence user name).

Surely you should be letting the insurance companies know its a GTI, otherwise if you ever have to make a claim and they send someone out to look at the damage then they won't pay out because the car details weren't correct. Insurance companies will do anything to get out of paying for a claim!

Hmmm, you have a point there.
