Technical question ... help needed

Hi all,

Should I be worried that this morning and this afternoon when sitting in traffic there appears to be a small plume of steam coming out of my front grille?

For info, the temp gauge is fine, and the coolant level hasn't changed at all. The steam is not coming from the engine bay, it's from infront of the radiator, and seems to be coming from a tube / valve cap thingy attached to the front of the radiator.

Also, the plume isn't huge - think what a keetle looks like just before it boils.

And lastly, I washed the car last night. It was -4 this morning and was 1 degree as I drove home.

So, opinions please, does the car need a trip to the dealer already?

my polo turbo does the exact same thing, vw diagnosed it as water caught inside the fins from washing it as thats the only time it does it

water becomes held in the fins in the turbos oil cooler and in between this and the radiator

once engine gets hot it starts to heat it up until it turns to steam

its nothing to worry about at all

i get it only when my cars been washed, and not otherwise, but if you washed yours last night it will still be holding the water in the fins

hope that helps you

Thanks Jeff - put my mind at ease. I will keep my eye on the coolant level just to be on the safe side.

Cheers,

Ross.
