Erratic idle causing MOT fail
Posted: Tue Feb 06, 2007 9:35 pm
My 1.6 has failed It's MOT cause the idle is all over the place
which means they can't hook it up to the emissions tester.
Have taken the throttle body off and given it a good clean, which
means it is now idling anywhere between 800 and 2500 rpm.
Tried resetting ECU by disconnecting the battery overnight, which hasn't sorted it out.
Have just got my hands today on a Vag-com lead off Ebay so armed with VAg-com 409, connected it up and got the following eight fault codes and after a bit of research on google managed to decode the DTC's
of the faults that the shareware version doesn't decode.
00518 - Throttle position sensor (G69)-
Open or short to B+--
Intermittent
00530 - Throttle Position Sensor (G88)
00522 - Engine Coolant Sensor (G62)
Faulty or break/ short in wiring
00516 - Closed Throttle (idle) Position Switch (f60)
Implausible signal - Intermittent
00609 - Ignition Output 1
01259 - Engine Coolant system short to ground
00282 - Throttle Position Actuator (V60) -
Open circuit - Intermittent
65535 - ECU control Module malfunction -
Could be wet OR wiring to/form control module faulty OR Control module faulty
The ones italics are the ones I had to decode myself.
I am definitely going to go and get a new temp sensor, reckon the one I fitted about six months ago is faulty.
If anyone can give us any pointers on the rest of the faults it would really help. If it's really baaaaaaddd news can you break it to me gently...
Will probably take it to a VW independent to get the TB reset to basic settings and If that
doesn't sort it out then it probably looks like I need a new TB.
If anyone has fault codes that they can't decode try these two links
