Funny Problem With my driver side lock.

hello,

ive searched about the forum for a similar problem but couldnt find anything.

This has just happened about half hour ago so im still a bit annoyed.

Basically, went to turn my car round and noticed that the drivers side door wont open the central locking. the key turns but i cant hear or feel the resistance of the central locking working. i go round to the passenger side and that side is ok and unlocks all the doors including the drivers side door.

ive seen problems like this that are linked to the electric windows but mine are fine just the one lock.

Can anyone help me out on this?

Hi,

But do you feel any resistance when turning the key? Or is it just loose when you turn it?

Because if you have no resistance it's commonly because of a small metal clip that breaks all the time!

In the pic, part 12 or 9 ( the paddle)

Since the other lock will make the pump work perfectly, my guess would be what i stated above.

hey sorry its taken soo long to get back.

if anyone has the part number then it would be much appreciated. I took it to one garage and he wanted £50 just for labour. i've been told it isnt that hard to change. can anyone confirm this?

its an easy job
mine went in the passenger side
im sure that the one from vw needs adjustin otherwise the wole barrel needs changing as they upgraded the lock cos the paddles were snapping
but once it fits take the handle off the door and you can see where it goes
10 min job max

Mine broke too and the guy at vw told me that with the central locking system you only have to turn the key very slightly and it opens the doors, there is no need to turn the barrell fully. The reason it snaps is incase someone rams a screw driver in and yanks it the spade snaps preventing the door from opening.

So when you fix it dont turn the key fully!!!

i've been down the dealer to get the parts, they told me because ive got the old style key that the barrel was made thicker. the guy has given me all the parts. gotta swap the dropping lock bits over.

Not worked on locks before so im gonna have to take this real slow and patient. Anyone give me anymore advice?
