Just posting to firstly say hey! im new to the forum, i drive a black 1.4 16v mk4 which ill post pics of as soon as i get some up online! got mucho mucho plans for it!

Ok, at risk of sounding like a total bellend, whats the best way to get a good 0-60 start? is it to get the revs up to about 3500rpm and drop the clutch or is there a better way? im probably too lead footed but whenever i try to get a blazing start i end up spinning the wheels a bit and getting a crap start!! just found out my car has 100bhp and not 75bhp like i originally thought and wanted to try out the 0-60 time with a vipercross induction kit and sports exhaust fitted....

Also does anyone know where i can get a decent dial kit for my car? lockwood don't do one for my car coz it revs too high and does 20mph more than the 8v kit. The dial kit with the correct speed and rev values is the wrong layout!

you'll want to slip the clutch slightly on the start to avoid the spinning but keep the revs above the 2nd cam rpm (4k+)

What tyres are you currently on? I'm using Yokohama A539 which are very grippy in the dry (less so in the wet). Means I can pull out of junctions hard without spinning up the inside wheel. Mades a big different to cornering too.

The best tyres I've had on the car were Goodyear Eagle F1s, but they stopped making them in 185/55/R14

As for technique, dialing in about 4000rpm and swiftly raising the clutch works well, but don't keep doing it or you'll be wanting a new clutch soon For normal quick getaways, I favour the granny start; i.e. get rolling with no wheel spin then nail it, making sure you go all the way to the red line, just before the limiter, before changing up. These 16 valvers really like to rev and only produce the power above 4000rpm. Can be quite entertaining at the traffic light GP, as your opponent offen gets off the line quicker, but as soon as you hit 4000rpm it's bye bye Saxo boy

hahaha excellent! a mate of mine actually does have a saxo (its actually ok....) and i do leave him for dead! he'll get his own back when he gets his civic type r in march. The bastard......

I'm currently on 17inch Wolfrace Proraces (with black innards.....looks the t**s on a black car!) with Falken tyres......yes lol 17s (as much as i like the Euro look on polos i wanted something different). I know this will make my accleration slightly less coz of the increased wheel diameter, but its ok coz they weigh less than normal wheels!

I think the granny start is the best for me, i often do them just on the road and your right, 16 valvers do love to rev! great for acceleration but the short gear ratio means that i'm revving at about 5000rpm at 80mph in top gear on the motorway....kinda noisy!
