Steering Wheel Vibration

Since I put my new wheels on, I've had an annoying steering wheel vibration whenever I'm travelling on the motorway! Does anyone know what causes this and anything I can do about it. I'm hoping its something I can do myself before the drive up to Telford for UD this weekend!

Steering wheel vibration is usually caused by the wheels being balanced incorrectly. This happened to me a few weeks back, i had the wheels rebalanced but the problem was still there. In the end i swapped one of the front wheels with the rear and my problem has been solved. Probably a wheel that was slightly buckled

unblanced wheels is probley the problem but you should always change the wheels around to increase life of your tyres.

No way are they buckled and they are not imbalanced, i had them balanced when i had them.
I'm trying to remember if i had wheel vibration.
I still get wheel vibration, but only slowing down at really high speeds. Dont know if camber would affect vibration.

The wheels might still be unbalanced Phil, I know when I've had a new tyre put on the van (replaced with a tyre exactly the same) it'll need balancing and might even need more weights than the one that came off.
Get that checked tomorrow if you get chance Bryony, will probably be as easy as that. Either that or the tracking, both of which are relatively inexpensive by anyones standards.

Could be balancing then, I didn't get them checked when I put them on as I saw the balancing weights on them from when phil had them.
Anyone suggest the sort of place that I could drop into with booking on a saturday? My garage will be shut

warped brake discs can also cause this, normally mostly noticeable at higher speeds. Less common with vented discs (which the polo has), but still a possibility.
If you say you're getting it when slowing down, then this would make sense. Brake pads being applied to the buckled disc(s) would cause vibration. I just bought new discs and pads, cost me £110 all in from euro car parts.

could also be something as simple as having a slight flatspot on one of your tyres

Well I took the car into one of the places that came up on the link Tom posted and had them rebalanced. Turns out they were quite far out so it was a good thing I got it checked!
Seems to have solved the problem a bit, car feels much more stable although theres still a bit of vibration if I'm cruising at about 70, seems to go away if I accelerate though!

Lol, its not ur fault - I wasd probably due some car problems, had nothing wrong with it since I got it! Drove 500 miles in it this weekend and didn't really have any problems except some vibrations at about 60mph and then again when I was going a bit faster...
Gonna take it in somewhere this week and see if they can figure it out!
