ok so ive just got my 16 cl 97/r with a small front end damage.ive just fitted a new bumper today so while everything was off i had a good look at the damage...looked at the wishbone as when you drive and let go of the accelerator it would swerve slightly but after a good look it wasnt the wishbone as that looked perfect but i carried my search and noticed my left hand/drivers side engine mount was undone...so i jacked the engine up and done the bolts up to no avail they were either the wrong bolts or the thread had gone inside the block as the bolts themselves were ok plus theres only one blot at the back holding engine in and that has cracked the engine mount so the engine is just about to go(cars now parked up until i can source parts)...well pic below of how i found it

what does anyone suggest? would you suggest replacing the engine or just getting the holes tap and died? BUT the big question is what other polo range engines fit straight in without replacing anything or loosing anything such as abs etc? could a 1.4 cl or 1.0ltr fit straight in and everything be ok? any seat engines?
like before the more suggestions the better as im completely lost...never had this before.

It looks like the mount hasnt pulled away from the block, so I'd just get a new engine mount and engine mount bracket, and of course a set of new bolts. Probably £40 all in from VW. :)

when i lift the engine on a jack the mount returns ok but i know i will need a new mount as it has cracked but there isnt a thread in the block as i put a torch to it and looked down the hole..i can lift the bolt in and out!

does it screw into the actual block or is it another bracket? just that it doesn't look like steel in the pic.

if it's another bracket.... just replace that.

if it's the engine block.... i'l look into putting a larger thread on there before i started an engine change....

Not sure if it's the same but, on mine (1.4l), there are two bolts which screw into the head or block(On the left hand side looking from the front of the car) can't remember right now. Anyway, when I did my cylinder head, one of the bolts has cross threaded and only just bites, the other is fine. I have been told I will need to get the hole re-threaded and to use a larger bolt. If I was you, I would do that, replace the bracket and mount and get the bolt holes re-threaded. Should sort you out.

Part 21 bolts to the engine block, I think you simply need to replace this, and the actual engine mount and all the bolts :)

That should help explain things I hope!!![/img]

Dont bother messing about, I reckon all the parts will be under £50.

You can change the bracket with the engine in, you simply need to remove the timing belt upper covers, there are 4 bolts.

Make sure you use new bolts, and torque them up correctly ffs. :)

Yes, that diagram is from ETKA. I can get part numbers if you wish, but I can't access prices.
