Hello from me

Hello

Firstly, I am Kris. I spell it with a k. Hence being called Kriswithak. I also post on other "dub" forums as The Colonel.

Until two weeks ago I was driving a 272bhp Audi S2 Coupe. It was fast. Very fast.

It also drank all the fuel in the world ever.

I sold it. I was sad.

So I bought something else. I have a new job. I have to drive to various parts of Kent for training as some of it is Maidstone, some at Medway University and some where I get stationed in East Kent, so I needed a car that didn't do an average of 18mpg, but was still a bit fun.

So yesterday I bought a 2001 Polo GTI in red. It has 58,000 on the clock, has been lowered and is really quite tidy.

The wheels need a bit of alteration. Maybe change them in favour of something else, wondering what RS4 replicas would look like (not current RS4, the previous Avant style ones) or it has been suggested that a gloss black refurb would look pretty good. Also the fist sized Ricer exhaust has to go, it is too bloody loud and looks like something out that s**t film with Vin Diesel.

First big question from me is this:

Need to change the Head Unit, can't stand VW standard stuff for some reason, and I have an almost new Alpine MP3/WMA Glidtouch sitting on the passenger seat. Have got the unit out, using the cut up AA card method, however as well as the blocks for power and speakers there are some other wires connected to it. What are these for and can I simply remove them or do I need to do something?

Cheers for your help guys, look forward to posting here more often. I'd keep posting on S2forum, but I am missing a cylinder, a turbo, a quattro and about 150 horses!

Welcome mate.

Must have been a bit of a come down going from 272bhp to only 125! Looked a very tidy S2 as well.

What size are the rims on your new GTi?

Thanks, it was a gorgeous car, not a dent or scratch on it. Tidier than cars with a quarter of the mileage and age! 12 years old and 125,000 miles and she was stunning.

I don't see the Polo as a come down to be honest, it's a very different car, quick and fun like a rollerskate, where the S2 was heavy, long and wide. I had a lot of plans for the S2, but never really did any of it because of it has taken 6 months longer to start my new job than I originally anticipated and have been doing a low paid bar job for the last few months.

The Polo's wheels are 16" Lenso somethings. I'm not really keen, but it'll be a while before I can afford to do anything with them!

Hi Kris, welcome to the forum. Have to say that exhaust does look quite loud indeed  I bet you can't hear yourself think at motorway speeds!

welcome Kris! another Kent member here!

as i said on the Vagingit, it was sad to see the S2 go but i think you have made a good choice with the polo gti!

i've seen that one about a fair bit in the last couple of years, i think the bloke who owned it previously worked at the Builders Centre opposite Westwood Cross in Broadstairs! saw it there a lot!

anyways matey, enjoy your stay!

As DFunk said on vagingit, we actually wrote a message in snow on it a couple of years ago as we walked across Ramsgate pissed as lords on Boxing Day night!

Done and done. It was the changer by all accounts. My Alpine is now in the dash.
