I don't think it would decrease the reception all that much really. I've switched from the original "bumper car" style whip aerial to an enfig S2000 stubby and its made no noticeable difference in signal strength
Dan if you are after an OEM look, something a little more subtle, the mk5 Golf has a wee fin aerial fitted when specced with GPS I think. Because its a VW part it will have a corresponding VAG part number too! But then you know this 'cos we already talked about it...

Ahh thats odd. I tried a stubby one on mine, and the reception quality was awful. Maybe it was just a rubbish material it was made of

I think the good ones (shark fins) have a signal booster anyway

I got an enfig s2000 too and haven't noticed any difference. Also took it off (parked in a dodgy area) and forgot to put it back on and the reception was still fine. Are you any good with paper mache?

Had one on my arosa, it was amplified so reception was good. Was a nightmare to get the wiring to the roof via the c pillar though

i've justed fitted one, it was £12 from ebay. Took about 2 minutes to fit and looks good (will post pics tomorrow). the reception quality has dropped a tiny bit but not enough to care about.
