When people say they've had a re-conditioned gearbox what does that include? Is it a used gearbox with all new components? I think mine is on it's last and I just want to rebuild it. I think it's the bearings thats gone so I want to replace those. Which option is best?

Re-conditioned gearbox

Replace bearings

New gearbox

Also is there any chance you can buy bigger or stronger bearings to replace the standard VW ones which are poop??

Cheers

The best way forward is to get your box stripped down and then rebuilt with the worn parts replaced. A lot of companys quote reconditioned gearboxes which are nothing more than second hand which means they could go at any time also.

You also can't buy a new gearbox for the Polo any more, any box you buy from VW will be a rebuilt one.

To my_little_polo you should still be able to get your box rebuilt but it sounds like its been running low on oil if its popping out of gear so it will probaly need a few more bits replaced than just the bearings.

I've done a search in google for ACE GEARBOXES but there's 2 that came up. Could you please give me the correct website for ace gearboxes. I've heard other members on here have used them and they said they're brilliant. Also a price would be nice aswell. I've just looked and found one for £435. Cheap or not?
Cheers

i had mine re-built from scratch with all worn parts replaced and a new clutch, it cost a mint but its worth while as the gearbox shifts like a dream.this was about 5 months ago now

I've had a price of £490 and thats the box re-built and taken in and out. Got a VW mechanic to do mine and my family's cars. Given him loads of work and said he'll take the box in and out for £40, can't fault that. So the box will be £450 re-built and 12 month warranty.
