all i know ive have seen it on autoexpress, as it was a red polo with a chrome h grill.

I saw it in Autoexpress a few months back too. Not sure I liked the sketch they had of it. A bit mini MPV for me, but maybe in the metal it will be much better. Of course Autoexpress sketches can't be relied upon, so I'll wait to see proper pics.
They did reckon next GTI would have the TFI engine as used by Golf currently.

Ok I've looked at the link to the photo/ computer generated shots. I don't think it looks as bad as I remember.
Maybe it will be a winner after all.

How big is it gonna be? The Mk6/7 are quite big now and really roomy on the inside with lots of room in the back

Mk7 doesn't need replacing imo. There's a good choice of engines, it looks modern and plenty of room inside front and rear
