Working in the passenger side footwell, You need to take off the cover tray under the dash (2 torx screws then pull towards you and down). You'll see on the RH side a cover about 50mm wide with two clips at either end, these clips need to be pushed towards the middle of the cover.

The cover then can be pulled away (downwards) exposing the pollen filter. If you then pull the filter it will come out of the slot. Then replace the filter, with a white paper one (pollen), or a grey carbon/paper (pollen/odour) filter.

Be prepared for dry leaves/seeds etc to fall into the footwell.

HTH

Thanks, I assume the facelifted polo is the same as your one?

Do you know if VW sell a combined pollen and activated carbon filter?

Your facelifted polo should be the same.. I don't know if vw do a carbon filter. I've got my pollen filters from Euro Car Parts http://www.eurocarparts.com along with the air, fuel, and oil filters once a year, as they do OE spec parts.

HTH :)
