Hey ppl i knowm it's possible to have 17's on a mk4. but would I need to file the arches? I've had my car lowered by approx. 35mm too so that might make a difference. Perhaps if i had very low pro. tires they would?
cheers

better off speaking to a specialist about this as there are loads of options
Harry runs 17s with 195/40 tyres lowered with no scrubbing
I run 17s with -40mm springs and adjustable dampers with flared arches, 205 tyres and get scrubbing in reverse only
and a few other get rubbing what ever
Best thing is if you really want them then get them and see what needs doing

yep as karl says try them on then you will be able to see where it rubs, it will definately need lowering otherwise it'll look like a 4x4, if you can then i would recommend getting the 195/40/17 tyres they will help as it's a more rounded tyrewall whereas the 205/40/17 is stretched and will rub.good luck (p.sit will make the car look sweet)

just thought id let people know there is a new tyre size available that will sit smaller than a 195/45/15 enabling 17"s with no mods needed keep an eye out for em as only nankang make em 185/35-17 NANKANG NS2

^^ Wise words. Look at a polo on 17's from any side and it looks rediculous because the wheels are so disproportional to the car itself! 16's with 40 profile tyres should be the biggest one should have to keep it looking sweet.

Agreed also, 17s just don't work on a 6N.

If you want to lower the car you'd defo need arch work as 17's at standard height scrub against the inner arch on full lock. Can't see it handling good eitehr as you'd raise the centre of gravity meaning the car rolls more.
^^ Might be just my eyes but it looks photochopped down. I can see an extra tyre line on the front tyre where it might've been moved and a white empty background area infront of the sideskirt!
Infact in every pic with those rims the cars been photochopped down onto the rims as there's empty gaps and black paintbrush spots hiding arch gaps.
