Ok i have been looking at three forums in the last 2 days and no where have i seen how these plates attach, I am looking at getting UK pressed plates from Dubmeister.

2 questions really A, how easy is it to get off the original plates on a new polo GTI. The other is how to attach the new plates with the surrond and without.
i am guesing it will be a velcro or sticky back plastic blue peter job but just incase.

oh and i am not asking what is legal and stuff

i used plate holders from the plateman.com which screw to bumper or bootlid
then the plates slide in and the edges click in to hold it
but if you dont want holders use double sided tape or similar, or drill the plates and use screws
upto you!

check the front of the plate for screws
if they are in holders they are most likely stuck on
just have a look

my plates were stuck on with industrial stuff, was a complete pain to remove but got there in the end with a lot of white spirit.

to put on my pressed plates I used velcro from Focus DIY / B&Q, It's about £3.40 a metre for both sides included.

Make sure the surface you apply them to is pristine! They've held for a week now, so all is good.

Then if the cops ask me to remove them, I have the other ones in the boot good to go with velcro too.

apparently there is a grey area regarding whether EEC plates in the UK can actually be legal - keep an eye on dubmeister for updates, it may look like you can actually argue they are legal from now on.

Just use trim repair tape, it's fancy double sided tape you can get from halfords. Really sticky and saves drilling the bumpers further!!

You OEM ones are probably screwed in, pop the caps off the two covers and it'll expose the screws.

I was a bit disappointed when I found that the plastic UK plates would not fit inside the Euro mounting frames - material too thick, but surely its only a matter of time before pressed plates are used in UK again as these plastic ones are rubbish!

Pressedplates are soo much better. Looki better, they're still reflective, and last alot longer than the plastic ones! You see so many with moisture leak in them clouding the reg number...

Yes and that then becomes an MOT failure!!

I also use the heavy duty Velcro stuff

I'm scared it's gunna leave marks on my bumper!!

I know it's not, but it would worry me.

I used Velcro strips for mine. Got them from Tesco! My plates have never moved
