hey guys, dunno if its just my car or if its normal, but especially in first gear when i hit about 5 - 5.5k rpm, the limiter kicks in (which i know is normal

) but the whole car jerks foward and literally throws me to the steering wheel. the accelerating force just instantly stops.
i dont know alot about cars so i might just be being silly, but i thought id see if anyone else has noticed it aswell
peace!

well i definately know mine doesnt go into red, but yeh im sure it limits at about 5 to 5.5k. its really annoying cos i fly forward, one day im gonna hit the damn steering wheel
is yours the same engine as mine?
well let me know your findings after you go for a cruise

Wouldn't have thought you should shoot forward.
I've only hit the limiter (7k) about 3 times since owning the GTi and all it does is cut the power, I've never shot forward at all.

Valvers shouldn't hit the rev limit till at least 6.5K if not 7

i've never hit the limiter in my valver, had it to about 6.5k though with no trouble

my engine isnt the 100bhp one tho, its 75, and redlines at 6K so its quite unlikely its gonna limit in the redline. the manual does say about not letting to the car go into the red at any time
is there anyway of maybe changing the limiter? or maybe the car has been in low revs its entire life as its only done 31k on the clock, which is causing me to jerk forward?
just throwing some ideas out that are flaoting in my head

If you're revving that high for power though, it's a waste of time letting it hit the limiter because it cuts the power.
Best bet is to change just before the power dies.

yeh thats what i do anyway, which brings me to the other thing; is it supposed to limit at 5 - 5.5K? the redline is at 6k and i would expect it to limit there

yea i've never limited it cos theres no point, power band stops way before the limiter.
my bmc sounds best between 3 and 4 thousand revs anyway, thats where all the power is

The 1.4 8v limits at about 5.5k i think....the valver should be a fair bit more to be honest. At least 6k.
You shouldnt really red line it to often. Your best to change gear at a certain point so that revs fall back into the power band......utilising its most powerful point. Thats what dyno's etc are for. Say you were 130bhp @ 5500rpm, you should change gear so that the revs roughly fall back down to about 5500rpm. Smooth and quickest approach.....that wont damage the engine
