MK7 suspension knocking

Hi all

I seem to have the famous front suspension knock.
I have read lots of complaints about this mainly on the MK6 forum although the descriptions all seem to vary and there doesnt seem to be an answer. I assume we are all talking about the same problem. If we are its a shame VW havent adressed the problem yet.

Its hard to be sure but i think it only happens when cornering left over uneven surfaces and i think the knocking is only coming from the drivers side.
On a recent visit to the dealer i reported the problem. The engineer road tested the car and experienced the knock, but could find nothing wrong and said that sometimes new components need to bed in. I think that is B******T
I am thinking of ringing VW customer service but i get the impression from this forum that they are a complete waste of time.

Is this something that happens on all polos???

first things to check are the bushes really bud! anti roll bar and wishbone and also the drop links too!
these are all common problems on the chassis in question!

I recently put powerflex bushes on my car (front and rear front wishbone and ARB bushes) as I was having the same problem. Seems to have eliminated the problem for the time being.

Open your bonnet then remove the plastic cap ontop of the shock mounting nut, place one finger on the nut then push the front end of the car down, if there is any play you will feel it, if there is play it means the nut is loose and the mounting is damaged due to the shock striking it while you are driving.

It happened to me and the mounting was replaced under warrenty.

Hope this helps.

Thanks all

PoloR - i tried what you said and there is quite a bit of play. I only tried the near side mounting because there is a module fixed over the top of the offside one but i have a feeling that one is even worse as the knocking sounds like it is coming from that side of the car.
Back to the dealer it is then!
