I have only had my polo about 2months now and before that i was driving a rather large renault laguna. today i was going in to uni and today the roads are very wet its been raining all night and most of the day i am sure most of you know. well i come to my first corner of the journey and i turn and the car just slides around the corner! and it was pretty much the same all the.
I could feel the front wheels just spinning. I had no grip at all. Quite scary.

I am just wondering if its my tyres? when i brought the car it had new front tyres fitted, just some cheap brand ones. the back ones are michelin. I feel like the wheels are two small for the car. maybe time to invest in some nice allowys + tyres.

what do you guys think?

Main to thing consider is that there is less grip in the wet, no matter what tyres you have! So naturally you need to slow down when it's slippery.

However if you are running budget tyres on the front, I would expect you to suffer understeer in the wet. By their nature they're not designed to provide maximum grip, so investing in some decent branded rubber would be a bonus.

Other thing is that fitting wider wheels will help grip in the dry, but will also increase the tendency of the car to aquaplane in the wet.
