hi
i was considering getting the vw ipod car kit
is this worth getting and also what vw head unit do u need?
my old alpine one died and have currently got my original beta tape head unit in. Would I be able to use that head unit with the lead or would I need one of the Gamma cd headunits??
Thanks
Dan

Its definately worth getting - I used to have it and have a similar Blaupunkt one now. You can use the BETA, GAMMA, DELTA or newer head units with it
Hope this helps you out dude!

Oh right cool. I thought it was a bit expensive for what it is but when you think it can run through your head unit it def seems worth getting. I used to use a standard aux lead but that just got annoying after a while.
may consider going for a single CD vw unit and combining it with my beta tape headunit then hooking up the ipod kit. That way I have the option for CD as well. You can get the single cd units on eBay fairly cheap
im not sure how the vw cd player rates against my old alpine though in terms of sound.
Hows your polo going by the way? I got the fogs on mine at last (with SE grilles at the mo!) and got some bosch aerotwin wipers on it the other day.
Any new mods?

You cant have the CD player and the ipod kit. With VW units, its either one or the other unfortunately (unless you have a brand new polo with the totally up to date HU). Kinda sucks really, thats why I upgraded to a proper Blaupunkt HU which is incredible!
Its going good. Fitted a full BMC CDA induction the other day and finished the piping today. Now got all LED bulbs and have Xenon HIDs on my shopping list for this month. Completely upgraded the soundsystem (rewired from scratch) so it sounds fantastic now. Black mirror - just lots of random bits since we last had a good old chat about what I've changed

oh right that does suck a bit! may go for a different head unit with ipod as an option. the alpine one i had sounded awesome.
More lights?! lol HIDs would be cool. There quite difficult to fit though arnt they? I not changed major things. Am impressed with the fogs! Do you have a symbol come up on the dash when your front ones are on??
Did see some pics I think of your ICE setup. Looked fairly neat.
Front splitter seems tempting at the mo. Not sure how easy it is to fit though

HIDs are easy peasy to fit
If you want a good stereo that looks factory fit checkout the Blaupunkts - they have an iPod kit aswell
www.bluespot.co.uk worth a visit!
Im gonna do the front splitter. The fogs make a very nice difference.
This months mods are:
*Cup holder
*Xenon HIDs
*GTI Splitter
And most likely some other random mod hehe

The blaupunkts are fairly good for the money. Friend has one and it sounds really good. Will check out the site cheers!
I take it you are replacing the coin holder with another cup holder or has your current one broke?
I wanna replace my DIN cubby. There this bend in the middle which really vibrates against the head unit when moving away and going along. I know it sounds petty but it is really annoying lol
From what I heard it is cheaper to get the splitter from VW themselves. I always feel a bit odd going in there asking for mods though. They kinda give you a rum look. Well they do me anyway ha!!

Yup and the sound quality is superb. Very versatile with the EQs and everything.
I havent currently got the cup holder - came on the SE, match and GTI models and is under where the radio part of the dash is. I usually keep a bottle of water in the car, and never have a space to put it so it should do the job quite nicely.
I have a spare DIN cubby if ya want it? Its out of a 9n polo so the finish on it is more like the door handles of our polos.
Would recommend changing the mirror to a black one too (i also have one of these...youd be surprised how many polo parts i actually have lying about!)
I heard the same, but its worth shopping around anyhow. My dealership gives me a rum look regardless of what I ask for. Wonder what they will think of the BMC hahaha

I looked on that site and noticed some of them actually illuminate in what they have called "VW Blue" Nice lol
Quite surprised about the cup holder. I have a single one in mine and mine is only the S range.
What kind of lining does the DIN have? My current one has like a felt lining to go with the other one further down. I did see em on VAG parts for like 20odd quid!! The finish sounds good.
I heard quite a few people go for the black mirror. Im not sure if im that fussed to be honest. I quite like the white as it matches the top interior.
How come you have so much polo parts lying around?? lol you might have to send me a pic of the mirror
Some of the VW garages of been to arnt always that interested if I ask for anything (no offence to u) u prob know what I mean though ha
I take it they havent seen/heard the BMC yet then? lol how does it sound?

Ye mine has adjustable illumination so you can make it match the dash - its sweet
Ye I was too but it will be a handy add on!
The DIN has a rubber grip lining, IMO better than that awful felt one which makes a mess with bits flying off everywhere
I'm always up the scrapyard so always collecting bits I may need in the future. Some of it I have got off mates cars which they are breaking - just all over the place really.
Hehe ye I know exactly what you mean
They havent seen it yet, and they may never get the pleasure. It sounds incredible - gives the engine the roar of a 1.6 (well close anyhow) and it has definately improved the accelleration. Second gear is much more powerful now in my opinion

Sorry for the late reply
The cup holder def comes to good use
Went to Halfords today for some advice on headunits and it seemed a total waste of time. The person in there seemed more interested in what it looked like rather than sound and was waiting for me to say "ok il have that one" was looking for Blaupunkt but there was only 1 in there and it was fairly old school
I cant say I ever have been to a scrapyard. Sounds like it could be worth it though
The induction sounds good! Someone at work was saying I should get angel eyes earlier!!! Not sure if I am up for that just yet but I think it would look good. I saw a photoshopped pic of yours the other day and it looked fairly smart

No worries dude!
It certainly will! I wired a second 12V socket in behind the heater controls earlier. Now I have a little switch in the back of the plastic cubby hole above which controls power to the socket. Its for my sat nav so I dont have to keep plugging it in (makes gear changes awkward). Worked first time, but I had to take all the dash off again to do it - but at least I only have to flick a switch now
Halfords are rather useless - look is important, but sound is more so. In mine I have the Blaupunkt Acapulco MP56 - looks fantastic in Black with the dash. I'll post a pic up later today for you. The only one at my halfords was the nav model which I have no need for.
Certainly is worth a visit to a scrappy - i get most of the stuff for free up at mine as they know me well
Not so keen on angel eyes - if i did get them, it'd have to be a chrome backed set, which would look nice. Just gotta wait for a set on ebay or justify the £200 they cost lol.
Also, last night after I left the last reply, I found out one of my numberplate LED lights has blown and the other has chosen to become a strobe light, so they will have to go back for replacement - only 3 months old!!!!

Like the idea of a switch for sat nav. Wires all over the place really annoy me. I dont use my sat nav enough really lol I am always getting lost without it which is really bad.
I can see how looks are important. I think I will go for a Blaupunkt or an Alpine.
Def would go for the chrome backed set. The black ones I dont think look all that.
Bit annoying about the numberplate light. I hate changing lights on my Polo. It seems really awkward especially as I havent got a drive way everyone keeps driving past and having a good nose lol Ive got one that has gone behind the heater controls and its really annoying at night. I did put a post on here asking how to change it but I had probs trying to get part of it off where the bulb is.
See you put in ya signature that cup holder and splitter are in the works.
With the splitter is it really just a case of unscrewing the 2 screws and then working it off with the clips? or arnt u sure?
Thanks
Dan

With regards to the splitter, yes it basically involves the two screws and working the clips free. Then doing the process in reverse to fit the new one.
It can be a pain to do however, and it's easier if you can lift the front of the car to get underneath. If you have a look on the search there should be a fair few threads about it also.

Oh right cool cheers it does sound fairly easy but can imagine it gets a bit fiddly
