Afternoon all!

Picked up my new wheels over the weekend! (Thanks Dino!!)
Now, ebay special, not as i expected, quite bad condition.

Spent 45mins each yesterday cleaning as much crap from them as i can!
One wheel isnt too bad, the others are awful!

Two of them have this yellow / gold stain on them which brake dust seems to have stuck to. I have tried all sorts of cleaning products and it will not shift!! (see wheel 3)

I guess they are gonna need a referb, had a quote of £50 a wheel which is a bit much for me!

How hard is it going to be to do it myself?

Anyone got any ideas?

yeh, i mean you seen them when they were really bad.
Just not sure what to do now, do i get some super fine sand paper and wet sand the full lot and give it a new coat of paint?

What you need is metallic alloy paint and alloy clear coat. I've done it so many times with my dads wheels (he has a thing with buses, they're out to get him, so hes scuffing his merc wheels dodging them).

Sand each wheel down going up a grade of paper each time until its nice and smooth. Then metallic spray it (you need special alloy spray), leave that to dry and then clear coat it a couple of times.

Make sure the tyres are masked, and wipe off any drips (do it slowly so it doesn't drip).

The best spray to use is Wurth Silver Wheel laquer and Wurth high gloss clear laquer.

It shouldn't take too long on each wheel (about 30 mins prep, 10 mins spray, and a couple of hours drying time).

Oh if you've got scratches and deep dents, you need some Bondo spot putty, or something like body filler, spread that smoothly over the area, prime it, then spray the whole wheel with it.

Don't forget to sand everything down!

You're lucky they're one tone wheels. I have heart palpitations when I go near the curb with those monzas (they're shiny diamond cut rather than smooth like the OEM ones..)

The tires that have come with it are 215/35/r17
They are supposed to be for a polo 9n,
now i have put the wheels up next to my current one on my car and they are a fair bit bigger.... this cant be right....

Mine came with 215/40/R17, and I had 195/55/R15 on there as stock.

My speedo used to under read, now it's pretty much spot on.

Well if your wheels now are say 14" or 15" then yeay they will seem a lot bigger that's a whole 2 to 3 inches difference

Unless I've miss read what you're trying to say. I have 205/40/17 on mine I thought that's what vw used for the 9n's

Yeh, i know what you mean there, 14's to 17 will look bigger (as in the alloy)
but i mean the wheel as a whole.

Think i have sorted it now anyway, just put one on the car and all of a suddern the origional VW one was bigger overall, so it must loose alot of its height with the weight of the car on it!

Looks soooo nice! but will have to watch for the TAX man as she is looking like a 4x4!!!
