STRANGE :S

in my stereo, i havbe a big black box:S at the back of the wires. anyone have an idea what it is? the red and yellow wires go into it, and so doe the brown and blue striped one:S its well wierd. the head unit which was in before used to work all the speakers, and i coied the exact wires into my new heat unit, but for some strange reason only the right and side works:S:S i cant get my head round it but im sure this black box has something to do with it...
